One of the biggest impediments to reaching any goal, is waiting for someone to cosign on your dream.
We all do it! We convince ourselves that we’re just asking for a casual opinion, or just speaking our goal into existence by sharing it with those closest to us. In reality, we want someone to say, “Great idea,” or “You can do it!” We are then discouraged and thrown off of our path to realizing that dream, because more times than we expect, we hear a much different response.
It’s naïve but human nature to think that your loved ones, family, friends, co workers —whom you’ve given your time, talents, and money to and would support whatever fly by night scheme they pursued—are going to support your completely tangible, life-changing dream. Why wouldn’t they want you to do well…right?
There’s a concept you might have heard, but if you haven’t here it goes. Pay attention. The perception is other DIVAS want you to do well…just not better than them. Of course, this is not everyone. Some people genuinely want you to prosper. However, when your ram in the bush turns out to be a wolf in sheep’s clothing and you consciously or subconsciously seek, or worse need their approval, you’ve inadvertently stumbled onto a quick recipe for a detour from your path to your Real Estate goals.
You may have a tight circle. I mean the squad to beat all squads! And, hopefully they are the most supportive group that a DIVA could ever hope for. But, if you don’t or they aren’t, so what? Sometimes you have to encourage yourself! Be your own cheerleader. Once you conceive of the dream, develop a plan, and then decide to pursue that goal, the person whose opinion matters most is yours. If you are not able to find that thing within yourself, if you’ve not learned to cultivate your “self-talk” to where you can be honest about the decisions you make and encourage yourself in good and bad, you’ve missed a key part of this process.

You can do it, with or without those around you believing in you. The question is, do you?
